Making Home Link Up #28: How to Crochet a Heart Shape

Welcome to the #MakingHome weekly link up!

Be inspired by posts all about moving house, home decor, DIY, crafts, family activities, recipes, gardening and more. It’s all here under one roof at Mrs Crafty B’s.

Don't forget to join in and link up your own posts. The linky is open from Friday until Tuesday. Find out how to take part at the end of this post which is a fabulous crochet tutorial from Eve over at Little Miss & Mummy.

Today I'm sharing this really quick and easy pattern for a crochet heart, prefect for using up those odd bits of yarn you have lying around.
It's time to grab your hooks people! It's quick, it's easy and can be finished in under 15 minutes (my kind of project). Please don't feel you have to stick to this pattern - it's only a guide.

So if you fancy having a go grab yourself some double knitting yarn and a 4 mm crochet hook.

**This pattern uses UK crochet terms**

Start by making a slip knot and then work 6 chain stitches (if you want a smaller hole in the centre of your heart then chain 4).

Use a slip stitch to join your chain into a foundation ring (joining into the first stitch made).

Round 1:
  • Chain 6 (this will count as your first double treble)
  • Work 3 double treble stitches into the centre of your foundation ring.
  • Work 4 treble stitches into the centre of your foundation ring.
  • Work 1 double treble stitches into the centre of your foundation ring.
  • Work 4 treble stitches into the centre of your foundation ring.
  • Work 4 double treble stitches into the centre of your foundation ring, chain 2.
  • Slip stitch through the centre of the foundation ring.

Round 2:
  • Work 2 double crochet and 1 half treble crochet into the first chain space from round 1.
  • Into the second chain space work 2 treble stitches.
  • Work 2 treble crochet into the next 2 chain spaces
  • Work 1 treble crochet into each of the next 4 chain spaces.
  • Work 1 treble stitch into the top of the next stitch (the very base of the heart).
  • Work 1 treble crochet into each of the next 4 chain spaces.
  • Work 2 treble crochet into the next 2 chain spaces.
  • Work 1 half treble and 2 double crochet into the last chain space.
  • Slip stitch through the centre circle of the heart, this will give the heart a nice cleavage.
Tie off!

Hope I've not confused anyone too much. If you decide to crochet this pattern heart I'd love to see a photograph of your finished heart.

  2. Do you have a plan for your little pile of hearts?
I made some one Christmas using a similar method and made bunting (very short bunting to go across a wreath, it was a last minute thing!) I'm always after stash busting ideas so I'm pinning this, thanks.
