The Twelve Makers of Christmas: Sarah of Sniffy Wiffy

Welcome to the second instalment of The Twelve Makers of Christmas. We have a smashing line up of crafts, gifts and products all being shared by lovely makers who have popped over to Crafting a Daydream for some Christmassy nattering. Before leaving Cambridge, I connected with the lovely Sarah who has developed an amazing range of products with a twist. This is a good one.

Hi Sarah, a drink? What is your favourite Christmas tipple?
Most definitely Baileys!

Would you prefer mince pie or Christmas pud?
Mince pie because the pastry is a bonus!

So tell us a bit about you.
I am a 33 year old mum to two little beauties - Georgia, almost 4, and Freddy, 10. Alongside Sniffy Wiffy I have 3 very different part-time jobs which include marketing manager for a local firm of accountants, viewing agent for a local Estate Agent and student welfare officer supporting students from Germany who are here to study. I am also on the verge of launching a website called Hire & Seek Jobs which seeks to address the difficulties many face when searching specifically for part time work.

You are one busy lady! What is the item you are sharing with us?
A very Christmassy-smelling Gingerbread body scrub with a 'how to perform a self breast examination' label as the aim of Sniffy Wiffy is to encourage women to perform breast checks in the fight against cancer and a great time to do this is having just used a body scrub which leaves your skin coated in a fine layer of oil.

So what was your inspiration for these products?
Watching Dr Dawn on Embarassing Bodies teach women the various steps involved in performing a self breast check - I felt I would forget all of the steps, so wouldn't it be handy to have them there in the bathroom! I donate to the charity CoppaFeel! with every product sold so this also inspired me. In 2013 my son Freddy was crowned Just Giving's Young Fundraiser of the Year and I most definitely caught the fundraising bug from him!

How long have you been making beauty products and how did you learn?
I have been making beauty products for a few years now. It is really no harder than cooking as it is a blend of ingredients and trial and error leads to good results in the end! It was the legal hurdles involved in being able to bring the product to market which proved most challenging!

Where do you craft? Do you have a designated space or room?
This is very much a kitchen table based business. However, due to health and safety considerations and good manufacturing processes I have to be very strict about my work environment and keep this completely separate from any food prep.

Can the Crafty B's find you online?
Our website launched recently at www.sniffywiffy.com We are also on facebook.com/sniffywiffy and twitter @sniffywiffy

What big plans do you have for 2015?
I am so excited for 2015 as by then I hope my male range (addressing testicular cancer) will be up and running and I also want to develop products which will suit those who are going through/have gone through chemotherapy.

What will you be doing this Christmas?
Having my first day off in goodness knows when! I will be spending Christmas with my husband and children at home.

Do you have any personal traditions over the holidays?
Not really - just to make sure the children enjoy Christmas as it is all about kids in my eyes.

What is the best thing about Christmas?
Most definitely when the children wake up and you hear them gasp when they realise Santa has been!
