In Autumn 2010, I started to knit a chunky scarf. On Boxing Day 2011, I finally finished it!
This scarf can officially go in my 'Completed Projects' list. For this oversized scarf I used big chunky wool and very big needles. It really is a monster but I'm very pleased with the result. The tension difference in my casting off to my casting on, shows the difference in my knitting ability in the start compared to the end. Knitting on the huge needles was a lesson in itself!
To make this scarf I used Cygnet, Seriously Chunky, Slategrey, and 20mm knitting needles. I purchased the wool on Amazon. I tend to find most of my stuff there. It was actually sold by HCS Crafts. I borrowed the needles from my Nan's stock! I cast on 20 stitches with double stands for the first row. Continuing with a single strand of yarn, the second row was purl. I continued to knit a row and purl a row until I got to my desired length (very long) and then I cast off using double strands again. In total I used 5 100g balls of yarn. Perhaps if you wanted to give it a go on a smaller scale you could reduce the number of stitches and knit to a shorter length. This is a great first project, for a knitting rookie like myself! Although needle on this size needle is very different to smaller ones. My next knitting project is a bit more brave. I am trying to complete a little Teddy Bear for Baby B.
